CLIMATE CHANGE: YOU HAVE A HAND IN THIS! ECO-UNESCO’s Youth for Sustainable Development participants stage an interactive youth event to raise awareness about Climate Change.
As Kyoto becomes a distant memory and the Bali roadmap leaves everyone feeling a bit lost it can be hard to remember that climate chaos is something we all have a hand in. However, every individual action counts, and this is the message of a group of young people who have been participating in ECO-UNESCO’s Youth For Sustainable Development (YSD) peer education programme.
The YSD group gathered together on the 22nd of April to mark International Earth Day and to raise awareness about climate change. Their slogan "You have a hand in this!" is based on the idea that every person must take responsibility for combating climate chaos.
This event was aimed at other young people, as part of the YSD group’s training in peer education. Young people from Portmarnock Community School, Catholic University School and Drimnagh Castle came along and participated in the activities run by the YSD group.
Some of the group facilitated games and activities on climate change while others conducted a survey and revealed the myths and truths of climate change! Some of the YSD group acted as spokespeople for the event and engaged members of the public in conversation about climate change. There was also a "How HOT are you on Climate Change?" Quiz, which used a giant map of the world to bring participants attention to the global inequalitites surrounding climate change.
