ECO-UNESCO tops Dublin Bus Community Support Programme Awards

ECO-UNESCO, Irelands environmental education and youth organisation was selected from over 1,000 entrants to be presented by Finance Minister Brian Lenihan with the top award of €5,000 at the Dublin Bus Community Support Programme Awards ceremony held on 4th September in Dublin’s Croke Park.

Dublin Bus Community Support Programme Awards

The award was given to support ECO-UNESCO’s Clubs Programme initiatives in the Dublin area, supporting young people to come together, set up and run local ECO-UNESCO Clubs to take action to help improve their local environment. Actions have included everything from multicultural gardens to public sculptures made from litter to promoting car-pooling in the area.

‘This is a wonderful achievement for ECO-UNESCO’ said National Director of ECO-UNESCO Elaine Nevin. ‘We are absolutely thrilled to have been selected for one of the top ten awards. The ECO-UNESCO Clubs programme is really about empowering young people to get involved in their local communities. We’re delighted the Dublin Bus Community Awards recognise the programme for its community as well as environmental benefits’.

ECO-UNESCO’s Clubs Programme works with young people in communities all over Ireland through a comprehensive support service including information and advice from ECO-UNESCO’s Clubs Officer, induction sessions, resource packs, workshops and social events.

ECO-UNESCO also runs a variety of other youth programmes including the ECO-UNESCO Young Environmentalist Awards, a National Youth ECO-Forum, training initiatives, peer education for young people and environmental workshops.
